GloPID-R convenes global funders, researchers & stakeholders to virtual COVID-19 Research Synergies Meetings
Virtual events – July 16,17, 20, 21 and 23, 2020
Global funders, leading researchers & stakeholders attended the GloPID-R COVID-19 Research Synergies virtual meetings between July 16 & 21, 2020. These successful and informative meetings were completed by an in-depth panel discussion on July 23, 2020.
This GloPID-R initiative provided a timely opportunity for global exchange and collaboration with the clear objective of advancing research synergies in the fight against COVID-19. Over the course of the four days, GloPID-R Chair Prof. Yazdan Yazdanpanah and Vice-Chair Dr Charu Kaushic introduced sessions chaired by leading experts on the themes of Vaccines; Therapeutics; Transmission; and Social Sciences Research.
Participants from across the globe, including GloPID-R members, researchers, representatives from WHO and major research and funding organisations, were able to livestream the meetings and engage in the question and answer sessions.
The initiative culminated in a rich panel discussion comprising experts Dr Marco Cavaleri, EMA; Dr Jeremy Farrar, Wellcome Trust; Dr Nina Gobat, University of Oxford; Dr Richard Hatchett, CEPI; Dr Marion Koopmans, Erasmus MC and GloPID-R Scientific Advisor; Dr Michael Makanga, EDCTP; Dr Soumya Swaminathan, WHO; and GloPID-R Vice-Chairs, Dr Barbara Kerstiens, European Commission and Dr Jeffrey Mphahlele, SA MRC.
Prof. Yazdanpanah concluded: “GloPID-R is confident that this series of meetings will contribute to on-going efforts to maximise the use of resources, generate connections between research projects, create opportunities to share information and therefore advance the progress of the collective effort to end COVID-19.”
